  4. (version 3.20) that did not make it into the manual.

  6. 1. Speed Surfer isn't in the task bar! (W95)
  7. 2. I clicked on a link and got a "No Data" message
  8. 3. I stopped using Speed Surfer and my browser won't work
  9. 4. How do I uninstall Speed Surfer?

  19. 1. Speed Surfer isn't in the task bar! (W95) ---------------
  20.  
  21. When you have the Speed Surfer control screen open, it will
  22. not appear in the Windows 95 task bar. If you want to bring
  23. the screen to the front, or access any other Speed Surfer
  24. functions, simply right click on the Speed Surfer icon in 
  25. the tray. Programs that run in the background (like Speed
  26. Surfer) don't usually appear in the task bar and we thought
  27. it would be confusing to have Speed Surfer appear in both 
  28. the task bar and the tray.

  30. 2. I clicked on a link and got a "No Data" message ---------
  31.  
  32. If you are using a high-speed Internet connection, usually
  33. cable modem or better, you might get a "No Data" message
  34. when you click on a link. This means that Speed Surfer was 
  35. pre-loading a graphic just when you clicked on the link and 
  36. the browser got confused.

  38. Nothing has been corrupted or lost - Simply click on the 
  39. link again and everything will be OK.

  41. 3. I stopped using Speed Surfer and my browser won't work --
  42.  
  43. For both Netscape and Microsoft browsers, Speed Surfer is a 
  44. proxy setting. When you unload Speed Surfer (right click on 
  45. the tray icon) the proxy settings are returned to their 
  46. previous, non-Speed Surfer settings. However, if you do not 
  47. unload Speed Surfer, but just close the browser screen, 
  48. these settings are not restored. Then, if you start Navigator 
  49. without using Speed Surfer, the browser will not be able to 
  50. find web sites at all because it is using the wrong proxy.

  52. There are two ways to fix this. The easiest method would be 
  53. to simply start Speed Surfer again and then unload it 
  54. properly. The second method would be to change the browser's 
  55. proxy settings manually.
  56.  
  57. Netscape
  58. Go to the Options Menu and choose Network Preferences. Once 
  59. the dialog box is displayed, choose the Proxies tab. Speed 
  60. Surfer will have set the radio button to Manual Proxy 
  61. Configuration and set the HTTP Proxy to http://localhost 
  62. and port 176.

  64. If your ISP does not require a proxy, simply change the 
  65. radio button to Automatic Proxy Configuration and click OK. 
  66. If you are using manual proxies outside of Speed Surfer, 
  67. click on the View button and reset the HTTP Proxy to its 
  68. original parameters.

  70. Internet Explorer
  71. Go to the View Menu and choose Options. Once the Options 
  72. dialog box is displayed, choose the Connection tab. Speed 
  73. Surfer will have checked the box marked "Connect through a 
  74. proxy server" and set the HTTP Proxy to http://localhost and 
  75. port 176.

  77. If your ISP does not require a proxy, simply uncheck the 
  78. proxy server box and click OK. If you are using manual proxies 
  79. outside of Speed Surfer, click on the Settings button and 
  80. reset the HTTP Proxy to its original parameters.

  82. Windows 3.1 Users
  83. The problem of closing the browser without unloading Speed 
  84. Surfer does not exist under Windows 3.1 and 3.11, since 
  85. there is no tray for Speed Surfer to hide in.
  86.  
  87. When you close the browser the Speed Surfer screen will 
  88. still be up and active. To "unload" Speed Surfer, simply 
  89. close this screen. Speed Surfer will reset the browser 
  90. appropriately.

  92. 4. How do I uninstall Speed Surfer? ------------------------

  94. The Windows 95 version of Speed Surfer can be uninstalled 
  95. from the Add/Remove Programs function. Simply select Speed
  96. Surfer 3.2 and click Remove.

  98. If you did not unload Speed Surfer the last time you used
  99. it, you will need to manually reset the proxy settings in
  100. your browser. See tip #3 above for instructions.

  102. 5. Help! I just got a Java error ---------------------------
  103.  
  104. Speed Surfer is not written in Java. This is a web site 
  105. error, or possibly a problem in the browser. The best thing 
  106. to do is to click OK until all the Java error messages go 
  107. away, back up and try to access the site again. If you get
  108. another Java error, you might want to come back to that site 
  109. later, after it's been updated.

  111. 6. Why should I connect to the Kiss Software home page? ----

  113. You can find out about the latest updates to Speed Surfer 
  114. as well as other great software products sold by KISS 
  115. Software Corporation. Also, check for downloadable trials
  116. of Kiss products.
